IT Professional Migration to New Zealand
Software development, cybersecurity, infrastructure and technology management are different occupations. A useful migration assessment starts with the actual work, qualification and employment terms, not a generic IT label.

Check the offered role
An Accredited Employer Work Visa may be relevant to an eligible role with an accredited employer. For residence, compare the Skilled Migrant Category with the specific occupation requirements on the Green List.
Some occupation entries have particular qualification or pay requirements. Do not assume that working for a technology company makes every position eligible for the same resident visa. The actual responsibilities and employment evidence must support the category being considered.
Organise qualifications and experience
Keep your award documents, transcripts and a chronological employment history. An NZQA International Qualification Assessment compares an overseas qualification with the New Zealand qualification framework where an assessment is required. It does not itself grant a job or visa.
Describe projects and responsibilities accurately. Separate employment from independent contracting and identify changes in hours or duties. A portfolio can help explain your work, but it should not disclose confidential client data, access credentials or proprietary source code.
Make the employment evidence consistent
Compare the offer, agreement and job description. Clarify reporting responsibilities, location, working hours and remuneration. Titles such as consultant, engineer or manager can describe very different work between employers, so rely on the facts rather than the title alone.
Where remote or hybrid work is proposed, confirm the actual arrangements and the visa conditions that will apply. Working online is not a general exemption from immigration requirements.
Plan beyond the first work visa
A temporary visa and a later residence application are separate decisions. Identify what evidence will be needed for any future qualifying work period and how a change of employer or role could affect the plan.
Is an Australian ACS assessment mandatory for NZ migration?
Do not import an Australian assessment requirement into a New Zealand application. Check the qualification and occupation evidence required by the specific New Zealand pathway.
What should I include in an enquiry?
Provide your specialisation, qualification, employment background, current location and any New Zealand offer. Keep confidential technical material out of the initial enquiry.
